Please subscribe to the following mailing list if you are interested in being included in the GLIC beta. Please only sign up if you or your company would be very likely to purchase a license, and you would like to be involved with the final testing. Priority will be given to companies that have demonstrated competence in Flash development and will be able to apply the component set to real projects in the next month or so.
Subscription to the list on this page has been ended. For more information on the beta, and contact info, please see this post.
This is a broadcast-only list (ie. you will not be able to post to it), and will be used to send announcements and information about the beta to interested parties.
We are planning a series of announcements over the next 2 to 3 weeks, most of which will also be posted to this blog.

I know the GLIC are very lightweight which I think is great. Looking forward to it. But I was wondering how easy they would be to skin? The biggest problems with Macromedia's v2 components in my opinion is the lack of documented proceedures on skinning techniques. In addition many of the parts of their components are not labeled properly and make it hard to target that item for a new skin. Does GLIC handle skinning differently?

Great!
Now, there are two features that I love about Flex and will obviously never make their way into Flash V2 Components.... are you planning to implement them??
- Containers + Layout Management
- Data Binding ( with binding chains )

GLIC skinning is very much different then the v2 skinning system. It is more along the lines of the v1 components, where you drop clips into the library to replace existing assets. Aswell GLIC also supports "Class" based skinning, so you can create a class and bind it to an empty clip, drop that into your library, then just take advantage of a few of the UIObject methods (setSize etc) and let the drawing api render your skin.
Assuming your skins are designed some what appropriately it shouldn't take to long to skin a component, or the whole set.

I can't remember if you ever mentioned that these would be accessible, can you confirm that please? If so they could just be the answer to my current woes. All of my apps always seem to work fine until any point I have to add a MM component ^^

new design? i just noticed the design of this page has changed, but not any of the others i've looked at. is this going to be the new look of the blog or just this page?

Looking VERY forward to testing these components. I have a very large real-world project underway utilizing data and databinding features. Will these components bind to datasources like the current MMV2 components? Also, will there be a datagrid included? I've tested so many V2 components I can't even count anymore, and every time I'm sorely disappointed. I hope these live up to their billing!

Has anyone received anything on the beta list?
I realize FFNY is on so the g-man is probably really busy. Just curious about the status since it's been a while since this post.
Looking forward to GLIC.

Obviously these components are a load of crap.
Here another deadline passed and no components.
Sooo... how many times are these clowns going to say one thing and do another.
You can trust them to release their components why would you trust them with your money.
Where are these components?
HA
Vapor.

Grant seems to be a busy man! I'm checking for quite some months now and still no components. This is getting frustrating!
Will the after-sale technical support be as slow and inaccurate as the pre-sale information?

I don't think Gus's comment warrants a response, but I do want to address the comments from Ronald and Derek.
I did make an announcement at FFNYC, though I haven't posted it more publicly yet. Also, if you are on the beta list, you will have received a brief update already, and more info is on the way. We have definitely missed a ton of deadlines, but this is mostly because of factors outside of my control (lawyers for the most part). I did not want to turn gskinner.com into a full-time marketing/support engine for glic, so I had to identify and establish a deal with a partner I felt would do justice to the component set, and I think we have one in Metaliq. If I had known it would take as long as it did, I might have done things differently, but hind-sight is 20/20, and the deal always seemed to be a week or two away from being finalized. There was never any intention to mislead people.
I can only offer sincere apologies to everyone who has been waiting for the components, and confirm that they are coming. I think things will work out very well now that everything is in place.
The full public announcement will be coming in the next day or two - we're just working on the official verbage.

The negative comments are the minority Grant. All of us in the software industry understand the delays and appreciate what you are going through.
All the Best
