If you're in the Toronto area, and are looking for a quick way to learn all of the amazing new features in Flash 8, this two day workshop might be for you. I've been spending a lot of time researching EVERY (seriously) new feature in Flash 8 Professional, in preparation for this workshop (and my MAX talk), and there is a lot of great content.

Here's the marketing babble:

Join internationally recognized Flash guru Grant Skinner for this intensive two-day workshop; the fastest way to get up and running with all of the new features in Macromedia Flash 8 Professional.

Targeted at intermediate and advanced Flash users, the session will provide a thorough exploration of the new authoring and player features. This will be integrated with detailed discussion on applying those features via ActionScript 2, inlcuding concrete implementation examples.

Topics include:

  • General interface improvements
  • Illustration enhancements
  • Filters
  • Custom tweening
  • Slice-9
  • FlashType
  • New video features
  • Image manipulation with BitmapData
  • Applying bitwise operations to color data
  • Mastering matrixes (gradient, transform, color, convolution)
  • File upload/download with FileReference
  • Javascript integration with ExternalInterface
  • Optimization strategies
  • Player enhancements

Attendees should be comfortable working with Flash MX 2004, and have a basic understanding of ActionScript 2 and core programming concepts. A laptop is strongly recommended but not required.

End marketing babble.

I think this workshop will be a lot of fun, it's certainly a fun topic - much more visual than my last workshop on OOP. It is also a lot cheaper than my previous workshop - we're trying to make it accessible to any professional Flash designer or developer that's interested.

I might be bringing this workshop to other cities as well, right now I'm looking at Edmonton, LA, and London (UK) - feel free to comment if you're interested in seeing it somewhere else.
