Gathering: Febuary 17, 2004

Our February gathering is tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17 (I know, short notice - my fault - apologies all round). We have a wonderful talk by Ismael Rumzan titled Interactive Video Learning Object, socializing, q&a, prizes and beer. As always, it will be held at Guru Digital Arts College at 7pm. Hope to see you there!

Interactive Video Learning Object
presented by Ismael Rumzan

Based on a section from an Occupational Therapy learning resource, we (Academic Technologies for Learning, University of Alberta) constructed anexperimental learning object consisting of several channels of information:
video, text synchronised with the video, text information area, and text area for typing notes. The technologies used were Flash MX, Flash Communication Server, Flash Remoting and Coldfusion MX. In this
presentation, I will attempt to:

  1. Define Learning Objects and their origin

  2. Outline Learning Object Design principles

  3. Look at how flash can help integrate different learning styles/channels based on the object in question

  4. Look at the flash comm and coldfusion code used to interact with the server

  5. Comment on a 50-60 student usability/research evaluation we performed
