FitC Best Canadian Flash Developer What is this? Best Canadian Flash Developer should be based on a body of work, ongoing technical achievements, and contributions to the Canadian/International Flash community, not a single project. This page provides an overview of Grant Skinner within this context, and a look at a few of his recent projects. overview | speaking | recognition | community | experimental work | corporate work In the past year, Grant Skinner has grown gskinner.com from solo freelancing into one of the most capable Flash development houses in the world. The team works with top international agencies and progressive corporate clients on world-class digital experiences. Under Grant's direction, gskinner.com has created a flexible, documented development process and a massive library of re-usable classes and components. Gskinner.com has successfully delivered projects for clients including AOL, GE, HP, Sony, AIGA, Macromedia, Polaroid, Metaliq, Blitz Digital Studios, propane studios, and IntroNetworks. Grant is internationally recognized for his work on Flash usability and programming issues. He has spoken at a number of high-profile events on these topics including: FlashInTheCan 2003/ 2004/ 2005, FlashForward 2003NYC/ 2004SF/ 2004NYC/ 2005SF, SIGGRAPH 2003 and MXDU2005. In addition to conferences, Grant also speaks regularly at user groups and educational institutions, and has developed the curriculum for a number of advanced Flash development workshops which he instructs internationally. Grant has been chosen as a finalist in the FlashForward Film Festival three times, winning twice (in the Technical Merit and Application categories). He has finalized twice for FlashInTheCan awards, and won once for for Technical Excellence. His work was featured in the SIGGRAPH Web Expo of “the finest web-graphics work of 2003”. He is highly involved with the Flash community, as an active Team Macromedia member and the co-founder/manager of the Edmonton Flash User Group - gskinner.com is also its main sponsor. He maintains a professional weblog, evangelizes Flash, writes articles and tutorials, contributes to the occasional book, and regularly releases source code. Grant spends a lot of time working on unpaid projects to test the limits of Flash's capabilities (call him a masochist). Notable projects include the multi-award winning gModeler, FlashOS2, Gskinner.com Lightweight Interface Components, gPathfinder engine, Gesture Recognition, Puki - The Swarm (3d - in progress), and ProximityManager. He also spends time on visual experiments, such as veins-g, fireflies, eco system, crystallization, electric fireflies. Unfortunately, much of Grant's corporate work is covered by NDA, or is on private networks. The following are a few sample applications Grant has developed.
