The Flash Builder 4 Show with Adobe's Duane Nickull

On WEDNESDAY, May 5th, 2010, Adobe's own code rockstar is pulling into town to showcase the highly anticipated release of Flash Builder 4:

"A meeting by developers for developers to see the new Flash Builder 4 and Flex 4 features from Adobe. Adobe evangelist Duane Nickull will walk through the new Spark architecture and other changes in Flex 4 components as well as take a deep dive into many of the new features in Flash Builder 4. Most of the night will be spent with code and code samples will be handed out after."

This is great opportunity to chew the fat with one of Adobe's own, network with your local community, and enjoy some sweet, sweet nectar on Adobe's tab (while supplies last).

A Southerly Breeze: Follow-Up

I just wanted to thank Michael Warf again for a fantastic remote presentation from his beautiful new home in Southern Alberta.

In one of the best presos we've enjoyed over the years, Michael walked us through his creative and technical process in creating a unique, 'worldly' experience where users navigate through a blend of photography, abstract pseudo-3D, and beautiful renderings of the University of Lethbridge Campus.

We wish Michael all the best in his new adventure and look forward to continuing to 'Connect' with him over the information superhighway.

efug.org back up

The efug.org domain is back online. We lost the domain for awhile, but I managed to get it back - you can rely on it for the latest meeting announcements and recaps via your browser or RSS reader (RSS links are in the left column).

Important News

Due to the lack of participation we have experienced with EFUG (primarily a lack of volunteers to speak, and a lack of input for topics), we are going to be scaling down the gatherings to one gathering every second month. I apologize for doing this, but it is impossible for the 3 organizing members to continue to do 90% of the talks - we're happy to bear the majority of the speaking/organizational burden, but not to the extent that we have.

Until further notice, gatherings will be held on the third Monday of even numbered months only. The next meeting will be on April 18th at 7pm.

My intention is not to berate or punish members for not volunteering to speak, it's simply that the three of us can not invent, prepare and deliver a new session (or sessions) every month without more participation from the community. I'm hoping that with a meeting every 2 months we can continue to deliver quality content that will help this community grow. I will try to continue to send out a mailing once a month with news, job/contract postings, etc. I'm also hoping that with less meetings, we can do a better job with the ones we have, and certainly send out meeting announcements sooner.

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns.

Kind regards,
Grant Skinner.

January Presentation
"Dynamic Content with Style"

Michael Warf (devbox.ca) will share practical examples on implementing external CSS definitions to dynamic flash content. Based on experience from www.edmontonchampcar.com, Michael will share how content was kept separate from the presentation layer via this technique.

EFUG Forum is Live!

We've been promising this for a while, but now it's a reality...our very own forum where you can ask questions, post cool techniques, or just blab with the rest of the Edmonton Flash community. You can register at www.gskinner.com/forum/ and then start posting away. See ya there.
